Per Club
: $20 per year per club, with renewal each January 1.  This includes weekly updates on the events schedule, a club description on the listings page and free classified ads (6 month limit per ad) for horse related items, for all club members.
Single Activit
y: A one time listing of an event, such as a benefit trail ride, horse sale, etc not done by a club, will be listed free of charge

January 11, 2014:  Heartland Saddle Club Annual Holiday Party at Valentino's in Ogallala.  Come join the festivities beginning at 5:00 (MT) for social time and evening meal to begin at 5:30 (MT).  Meal will be buffet style with pizza, pasta and salads for a cost of $9.99, plus drinks, plus 15% gratuity.  Please RSVP by January 9th if you plan to attend, to Twila at 308-239-4577 or rtbrown@nebnet.net

February 9, 2014: Heartland Saddle Club Fun Day ride at Kiplinger Indoor Arena in McCook. This facility is heated so come enjoy the ride! Start time is 1:00 (12:00MT), for fun and games or any trail obstacles that members care to bring. Ride until approximately 5:00CT, with short meeting and optional sack lunch or Pizza Hut takeout meal to follow. March 12-13, 2014:
Informational gathering for horseback riders interested in taking part in the annual 2014 Pony Express re-ride across Keith County in Nebraska on June 19th. Stop by, in Ogallala, at Open Range Bar/Grill on Wednesday March 12 from 5:00 to 7:30 or in Paxton at Windy Gap Bar/Grill on Thursday, March 13 from 5:00-7:30. March 23, 2014: Heartland Saddle Club ride at Grant to start at 1:00MT, meet at the fairgrounds (200 Garfield Ave).  After a scenic tour of the city of Grant, an optional stop at Subway will conclude the outing. HSC club members planning on taking part in this ride are asked to RSVP by March 22 to Darren at 308-352-8029 or Shannon at 308-352-8282, in case of inclement weather.
Directions to Perkins county fairgrounds: From Ogallala take Hwy 61 south into Grant to 2nd street (1 block north of railroad tracks) then west to fairgrounds. From the south, cross the railroad tracks and go one block north to 2nd street, then west to the fairgrounds.

March 29-30, 2014: Knoles Performance Horses,
Horsemanship Clinic in North Platte. Reserve your spot in advance ($50 deposit required), cost of clinic is $100-$180/day. All levels of riders welcome, auditors $20/day. April 12-13, 2014:  Friends of Peckerneck Trail benefit trail ride, beautiful scenery riding along Harlan County Reservoir, near Alma, NE. Primitive camping, water available for horses, $5 donation to ride with potluck hotdog meal to follow. Start time is 10:00CT both days, overnight camping Friday to Sunday allowed. April 19, 2014:  Heartland Saddle Club ride at Spring Park on the north side of Lake McConaughy, near Ogallala, NE. Plan to saddle up at 1:00pm MT be ready to ride by 1:30MT. This is a ride only, to be followed by a potluck meal, so bring your favorite dish, salad or dessert and your own beverage. May 11, 2014:
Heartland Saddle Club Trail Ride at Church Grove Enders Lake Recreation Area.  Ride to start at 1:00MT, potluck to follow so bring your favorite covered dish/salad or desserts. Grill will be provided for whatever meat you wish to bring, BYO buns. Plates and silverware, tea and water provided, but bring your lawn chairs! This is a members only ride, but membership forms will be available the day of the ride so come enjoy the scenic views at Enders Lake!  Nebraska State Park sticker is required!!
From Imperial: Coming from Highway 61 south: From intersection of highway South 6 and East 61 (by ALCO) turn east, go approximately two miles to Ave 335. turn south onto dirt road follow around it turns into Road 733A. Then First road, 335A turn south and continue until enter the camp/picnic grounds. Approximately five miles from Highway turnoff Ave 335 to campground.
From town of Enders: Continue on Highway 6/61 approximately 5 miles toward Imperial ( When you see Imperial Valley Holliness Camp be looking for the turn). May 17, 2014:
Horsemanship Clinic open to 4-H and Rodeo Queen contestants! Full day youth clinic offered for ages 11-19 for $40/rider or family discount $75/two riders. Also offering a 1/2 Day Beginner Youth Clinic for youth ages 10 and under for $20/rider. Clinic will cover Ground Etiquette, Rail Work, Patterns, Flag Presentations, Grooming and Horse Care. Clinic is hosted by the Ogallala Roundup Rodeo Royalty Committee and will be held at the Haythorn Ranch, 17 miles north of Ogallala, Nebraska. June 6-8, 2014:
Nebraska State 4H camp Tack, Traits & Trails horse-n-around weekend for families wanting to camp at the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey, camping, cookout meals and roughing it with your horses. Horse care classes and AQHA challenge courses available, or zip line 400 ft to the Middle Loup River. Horses not required but chaperone is for these activities. Camping at Natic Camp ground, horse stalls available, cost for camper and chaperone is $175 for 3 days. Contact Connie cox at ccox5@unl.edu for more info.

February 23, 2013--Cowboy Mounted Shooting "New Shooter" Clinic at Valley County Fairgrounds, Ord, NE., starting at 9:00am CST.  We will have two options, ground shooting or shooting from your horse. Registration opens at 9 am for ground shooters and 10 am for mounted shooters. Both will provide an opportunity to learn about guns that are available before using them. April 14, 2013:  Heartland Saddle Club ride at Kristy Allen's place, Northwest of Ogallala.
Kristy's place is located 1 mile West of the 61/26 bypass, between mile marker 144 and 143 exactly in the middle. North side of the road are 3 mailboxes a black a grey and a white 1, turn north at the mailboxes, 300 feet take the first private drive west. Meet at 2:00MT, Practice trail of obstacles in the arena, then a short CRP ride.Potluck to follow at 5:00MT. April 28, 2013: Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration and Clinic at the Rodeo Grounds in Sutherland, NE. Join us for a Cowboy Mounted shooting demo to learn more about the fastest growing equine sport. We combine fast horses with .45 caliber guns to shoot targets. Registration is at 9 am (MT), demo/practice to start at 10 am (MT). We will start with ground shooting then work on starting horses. Bring your horse! Guns and holsters will be provided and experienced horses will be available to help. There will be a cost for ammo, no outside ammo will be allowed. May 4, 2013:  Christian Cowboy Ministries Benefit Trail Ride near Max, NE. Location is Levis Whipps Ranch, 2.5 miles East of Max, NE on U.S. Hwy 34. Start Time is 1:30 pm MST. Meal & Cowboy Church following the ride featuring Christian Cowboy Poet Fred G. Ellis. Free will offering with all proceeds benefiting Christian Cowboy Ministries. May 12, 2013: Sandhills Sharp Shooters mounted shooting practice 8 miles north of North Platte on Hwy 83, east side of the road. Start time is 9-10 am, CT. New shooters are welcome, however everyone participating must be a member of the Cowboy Sports Association to be covered by their insurance, signup available Sunday. May 11-12, 2013: Sandhills Hunter/Jumper Spring Clinic: Clinician will be Martha Deeds who is very knowledgeable in jumping and dressage, lessons are 2 persons at $35.00/hour. Location is Mary Dailey arena, 84611 east Shack Road, N Platte. May 18, 2013--Colorado Pony Express Trail Ride, begins with registration from 8:00-8:30 at Lucy's Place, Sedgwick CO. Caravan to trail head at 8:45, ride to start at 9:30. Lunch and porta-potties provided, interesting facts/local history/XP related stories to be shared during lunch. This ride is along the original Overland Stage trail. May 19, 2013:  Heartland Saddle Club Enders Trailride at Spicer Ranch.m Meet at Susan's house at 1:30 MT (2:30 CT) for approximately a 2 hour ride, followed by a potluck/social time so bring your favorite side dishes/desserts to go with Susan's meat dish. May 25, 2013: Youth Horsemanship Clinic, Ogallala, NE., covers horsemanship and reining patterns, rail work, ground etiquette, flag presentations, horse grooming and proper fit and use of tack. Boys and girls ages 8-19 are welcome.Breakout sessions on proper horse care with feed, hoof care, and vaccinations.There will be a one hour lunch on your own. Each rider is allowed to bring up to 2 horses.

Start time is 1:30MT, (2:30CT) Directions: 2 miles West of Max, NE or 7.5 miles East of Stratton, NE to Road 347, go 2 miles North on Road 347, then 1 mile East. Nebraska Cowboy Church Association six mile trail ride through the Bluffs, South of Maxwell. Start time is 8:30am (CT), cost is $25 per person and $15 each additional family member. Start location is 2.5 miles South of Maxwell I-80 exit, to Cottonwood Road, go 2.5 miles to 9 Penny Ranch. June 22, 2013 Ogallala Roundup Rodeo Royalty Pageant. Princess ages 10-14, Queen age 15-19. Heartland Saddle Club Ogallala trail ride, hosted by Joan Feusner and Kristi Allen. Event  start time is 5:30pm (MT) at Feusner residence, with a potluck brats/saurkraut meal, followed by a 1000 acre, evening pasture ride through the rolling hills, west of Ogallala. Please bring any sides/desserts and your lawn chairs. Camping is available with electricity/water hook-ups available for anyone wanting to stay overnight and ride the following morning. August 15, 2013: Sandhills Sharp Shooters CSA mounted shooting practice at Dusty Trails arena near North Platte, NE. New shooters and spectators welcome, but membership required to shoot and available at the practice or by signing up online at Cowboy Sports Association. All equipment will be available to try for a small fee, ammo also available, a $15 arena fee will be collected to participate. Registration at 5:00CT, start time is 6:00CT and shoot until 9:00. August 18, 2013: 
Heartland Saddle Club Paxton trail ride challenge and scavenger hunt. This ride will be hosted by Rod and Twila Brown, at 3:00MT, followed by a potluck around 5:30MT. Just for fun, there will be 8-10 obstacles along the 3-4 mile trail, to challenge riders.  Fellow riders will act as scorekeepers/judges. Grilled hamburgers will be supplied or BYO choice of meat to grill and any sides or desserts. Two Les Vogt Horsemanship Clinics, sponsored by Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Ranch Horse Team, location is Everett Stencel Livestock Teaching Center indoor arena, Curtis, NE, NCTA Campus.Les Vogt is a 15 time World Champion in Reined Cowhorse and Reining. He teaches each student at their own level of riding, beginner to advanced and can break down complicated maneuvers into small simple steps, then combine them into the complex maneuvers. JUNE 1-JUNE 3, 2012: Heartland Saddle Club weekend campout at Nebraska National Forest at Halsey. Camping will be at windmill 201 where the annual 4H ride is generally held. It has lots of grass for portable pens and a water tank for the horses but no amenities. Turn off on from Highway 2 at the Nebraska State Forest sign. The paved road continues towards the Lookout tower, as you come to that you will see a dirt road to the left that says Dismal river and whitetail campground. It is a narrow dirt road that winds (about 3 miles) around to until you see to the west, off of the dirt road, a large meadow with a windmill and stock tank. Maps can be picked up or ask questions at the Ranger's station, upon entry to the park. Lodging is also available at the Middle Loup River Ranch (402-450-2268), 3 miles west of forest entrance, on Hwy 2. JUNE 3, 2012:  Velvet Spurs Open Horse Show.  Registrations @7:30am, show at 8:30.  Entry Fee is $25.00 for the day or $10 for each class, 5 age groups; classes include showmanship, western pleasure, western horsemanship, trail class, reining, poles, barrels, and walk trot. JUNE 8-10, 2012: First Annual EstFest Nebraska Trailride. It is a trailride/campout for ladies, and will be located 10 miles North of Stapleton, NE, at the Wells Ranch. This organized ride originated in South Dakota back in 1997 and have held an annual fall ride ever since. They have now included a ride in Nebraska. JUNE 30-JULY 1, 2012: St Judes Children's Hospital Saddle Up Trail Ride at Peckerneck Trail head (map) by Harlan Lake near Alma, NE. Saturday ride starts at 10:00CT, registration begins at 8:30. A $15 donation will give you a free evening meal with raffle for donated items afterwards. Saturday is an all day ride with lunch on the trail (bring your own sack lunch) and Sunday is a half day ride. Camping is primitive on a large grassy area, for camping overnight before or after the ride. Bring your own electric fence, panels or tie to trailer for containment. OCTOBER 14, 2012:
Cheyenne County ride will be Sunday Oct 14 at 2 pm (cst). This is a  group from Northwest Kansas that does a ride each year second weekend of October to benefit St. Judes. This year, about a 3 hour ride, start from the Dauthit Ranch. Free will donation, meal following the ride. Directions: Dauthit ranch-- take Hwy 34 to Parks, NE.  Turn south at Parks, NE and travel south to road W. Go one mile East to Road 15, then North to set of buildings, follow cones through yard to parking area on East side.

OCTOBER 21, 2012: HSC Trail Ride at Wayne and Dona Rundback Ranch, Southeast of N Platte. Ride is to start at 1:00 CT (12:00MT) and will be through canyon pastures, for approximately 3 hours. Dona is planning a soup or stew type meal to follow so anyone who wants to bring any sides/desserts are welcome to do so. Please RSVP to Twila (308) 239-4577 by OCTOBER 19th if you plan to attend, for Dona’s food count and in case of inclement weather. (Postpone date will be Saturday, October 27). From the South, at intersection of Hwy 23 and Hwy 83, go North 13.2 miles, then East 1.25 miles to white archway, continue East into lane.

OCTOBER 27-28, 2012:  NCTA Ranch Horse Team and NCTA Equestrian Team at Curtis, NE present Sherman Tegtmeier, Reining and Horsemanship Clinic. Sherm is a NRHA trainer and renowned Non-pro coach. His clinics not only teach you reining, but he also teaches you horsemanship skills to help make you a better rider no matter how you want to use your horse. DECEMBER 4:  Proper Saddle fit demonstration at NCTA indoor arena at Curtis, starting at 1:00CT (12:00MT). Featured speakers will include veterinarian Dr Caitlin Daro with thermal imaging to detect hot spots of pressure, and saddle maker Dallas Shearer to explain what to look for in fitting your saddle to your horse. This event is being sponsored by the NCTA Horse Show team, along with the Heartland Saddle Club and there is no fee to attend.  Bring your horse/saddle for evaluation of saddle fit. A limited amount of riding at the indoor arena will follow, with free will donations going to the NCTA Horse Show Team.

DECEMBER 11: Holiday Horse Parade at Stratton, NE, beginning at 2:30 CT. Hayrack available, meet at Grandview Center parking lot at 2:15, or decorate and bring your own horse to ride along spreading holiday song and cheer.  Riders meet at the North end of Bailey Street at 2:15.  Trailer parking available in the field Northeast of the end of the street. April 11: Craig and Diana will host a trail ride at Craig's ranch for the next meeting at 1:00.  In case of inclement weather, we will have our meeting there, in the barn.  Directions: go north on Hwy 83 across the river bridge to Hall School Road (1st road east), go 7/10 of a mile east to Eshleman Road, turn north for 1 mile, it's the second house on the east side of the road. Kerri plans to bring iced tea, Bonnie plans to bring pot and coffee.

APRIL 24: NHA sponsored Sherm Tetgtmeier Horse Clinic at Steerhead Arena west of North Platte.  Cost for members for a 2.5 hour session will be $50 or $85 for 2 sessions. Cost for non-members is $60 per session.  Deadline for member registration and to pay is February 1st.

MAY 30: COLORADO PONY EXPRESS TRAIL RIDE @ Weaver Ranch, Sedgwick, CO, to raise money for the 2010 National Pony Express Celebration. Ride at 9:00 sharp, noon meal @ Haynes’s Whiskey Springs Ranch, ride until 3:30 pm. Cost is $25/adults, $15/youth, and $10 non-riders for meal. Advanced registration required, meal included in fee. JUNE 5/6: NHA Overnight trailride/campfire cookout under the stars in the sandhills north of N Platte, planned during the full moon for a possible late night ride.  Ride cost is $15 per person and includes 2 meals/drinks.  Festivities begin Friday afternoon @ 5:00 pm, join us at the campfire for music, jokes and barbeque supper. Some horse pens available (talk to Bill), but bring your own hay, water tub, buckets, hay bags, etc.  This ride is limited to adults only this time around. Bring your sleeping bag, tent or other accommodations, along with a lawn chair, camera, flashlight, CD’s and other necessities.  Saturday morning ride is planned also, along with breakfast at the campfire.  RSVP a must by June 1st so we can plan for food.  Contact Bill at 520-3566. Directions to Dona's---From I-80 (N PLatte) go south on Hwy 83 for 6.3 miles to mile marker #75 (at power substation), turn left (east) for 1.5 miles on Brown Road, to sharp turn, lane is on turn. This ride is not a beginners ride, it will be in the canyons.

OCTOBER 4: Buz and Bonnie Ehlers are planning a trail ride for NHA members and guests

 on Sunday, October 4th, hosted by the Wells and Milldale ranches North and East of Stapleton. Gary Warner, Carol Clark and Larry Meyer from those ranches will be leading us and doing the mapping for the trail.
The ride will begin at 1:30. The starting point will be 8 miles North of the Logan County Fairgrounds. There are a set of corrals on the East side of hiway 83 at that point. We will leave our vehicles there and ride from that point The ride is about 10 miles long and will take approximately 4 hours. We will be riding through the Wells and Milldale ranches. At one point we will be on Sanctions Bluff, which is the highest point in Logan County…so bring your binoculars.
 The ride will end at Milldale Ranch Headquarters. At that point we will shuttle people back to the starting point to pick up their trailers. We will end the day with a meal of sloppy joes, cowboy beans, chips and drink. The Milldale Ranch cook will be treating us to desert. We will need a head count in advance,

OCTOBER 11-Paxton Trailride @ Keystone Ranch. POSTPONED DUE TO WINTER STORM  Start time is 9:30 MT to saddle up and be ready to ride by 10:00 MT.  Morning ride will include the rough hills south of Keystone and the afternoon ride will likely include the area around Lake Ogallala.  Cost is $5 per person and includes noon lunch. Bring your own snacks, cameras, etc for the ride. An RSVP is required so we can plan for food, by October 8th,  To reserve your place or in case of inclement weather, please phone Twila @ 308-239-4577 or 308-289-4956.  Directions to Keystone Ranch: From Highway 30 at Roscoe, stay on Highway 30 to the west edge of town, turn North at the Keystone Road sign, stay on paved road, continue north for 5.4 miles, slowing for steep curve and canal crossing, turn is directly north of canal on east side of road.  Follow signs to parking area. Lunch will be served at parking area so bring your lawn chairs!!

OCTOBER 18: Paxton Trail Ride, Start time is 12:30MT to get saddled up and ready to ride by 1:00MT. Rather than putting together a meal, we will be just riding the afternoon.  Our starting place will be where Bill Timmons now lives, and he would be glad to provide his place for snacks and beverages to follow the ride, if everyone wants bring snacks to share. 

Directions to the starting place are: Go north off Highway 30 as it passes through Paxton, on main street (flashing light) and stay on the paved road going north for about 2 miles.  The paved road crosses the NPPD canal, start slowing down as you cross it, the turn to the west (left) is the next road you come to about 1/4 mile further. The sign says Road East 120.  Follow this road for approximately 4 miles. On the third curve (you will be going west) is where Bill lives.  There is a cornfield that has been partly picked on the north side of the road, and there is room to park along the west and south edges of it. 

This start location has been used in the past on several rides, but we will be riding a different route this time, down near the river and possibly up in the hills to the west of Bill's. NOVEMBER 15: NHA meeting to be held at 1:00pm at Linda Johnson's indoor barn. A demonstration of proper saddle fit for you and your horse, will be the topic.  Guest speakers will include Jake VanHorn ( a saddle maker from Ogallala), Jackie Bishop (equine massage therapist) and possibly a horse trainer from Grand Island, that will all show how saddle fit can influence the performance of your horse.  Members are asked to bring horses and saddles for demonstration purposes. There is no charge for the demo, but those wishing to ride in the barn following the demo will be required to pay a $10 fee per person, to cover electricity and insurance. A short NHA meeting may follow the demo.
Directions to Linda's arena: from N Platte river bridge go north on Hwy 83 for 2.7 miles.  Turn west on first road at the top of the hill.  Coming from the north on Hwy 83, turn west on the first county road past the 83/97 junction. Linda's driveway is the 3rd turn south, it's the next turn after the mailbox that says Justin Roberts. There is limited parking in Linda's yard so members are asked to pool rides if possible or park on the county road if needed. DECEMBER 6:NHA meeting at the firehall @ 3:00pm to discuss list of names of those interested in running for office, next year's horse show and upcoming rides and events.  Meeting Cancelled at this time.
