free of charge

January 12, 2013---Heartland Saddle Club Annual Holiday Party at Valentino's in Ogallala. Come join the festivities beginning at 5:00 (MT) for social time and evening meal to begin at 5:30 (MT). Meal will be buffet style with pizza, pasta and salads for a cost of $9.99, plus drinks, plus 15% gratuity. An optional 'Naughty Santa' gift, may be contributed if any members wish to participate in the drawing, with a $20 value, following the Holiday meal.
February 3, 2013--Heartland Saddle Club Fun day ride at Kiplinger Indoor Arena in McCook. Start time is 10:00CT, for fun and games or any trail obstacles that members care to bring. Ride until 2:00CT, with meeting and sack lunch or sub sandwich meal to follow. Head count will be taken at 10:00 for anyone wishing to chip in on Subway party platter. Bottled water provided or BYOB. Please RSVP by Feb 2, 2013 to Twila if you plan to attend, in case of inclement weather. There is no charge for this ride, for HSC club members.

February 23, 2013--Cowboy Mounted Shooting "New Shooter" Clinic at Valley County Fairgrounds, Ord, NE., starting at 9:00am CST. We
will have two options, ground shooting or shooting from your horse.
Registration opens at 9 am for ground shooters and 10 am for mounted
shooters. Both will provide an opportunity to learn about guns that are
available before using them. Clinic cost is $20 per person for ground

April 14, 2013: Heartland Saddle Club ride at Kristy Allen's place, Northwest of Ogallala.
Kristy's place is located 1 mile West of the 61/26 bypass, between mile marker 144 and
143 exactly in the middle. North side of the road are 3 mailboxes a black a grey
and a white 1, turn north at the mailboxes, 300 feet take the first private
drive west. Meet at 2:00MT, Practice trail of

April 28, 2013: Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration and Clinic at the Rodeo Grounds in Sutherland, NE. Join us for a Cowboy Mounted shooting demo to learn more about the fastest growing equine sport. We combine fast horses with .45 caliber guns to shoot targets. Registration is at 9 am (MT), demo/practice to start at 10 am (MT). We will start with ground shooting then work on starting horses. Bring your horse! Guns and holsters will be provided and experienced horses will be available to help. There will be a cost for ammo, no outside ammo will be allowed. May 11-12, 2013: Sandhills Hunter/Jumper Spring Clinic: Clinician will be Martha Deeds who is very knowledgeable in jumping and dressage, lessons are 2 persons at $35.00/hour. Clinic, Ogallala, NE., covers horsemanship and reining
patterns, rail work, ground etiquette, flag presentations, horse grooming and
proper fit and use of tack. Boys and girls ages 8-19 are welcome.Breakout
sessions on proper horse care with feed, hoof care, and vaccinations.There
will be a one hour lunch on your own. Each rider is allowed to bring up to 2
horses. Deadline is register is May 23. Will only be taking the first 20
paid reservations. Equipment list will be mailed out upon payment. $30 per

He teaches
each student at their own level of riding, beginner to advanced and can break
down complicated maneuvers into small simple steps, then combine them into the

intersection of highway South 6 and East 61 (by ALCO) turn east, go
approximately two miles to Ave 335. turn south onto dirt road follow around it
turns into Road 733A. Then First road, 335A turn south and continue until enter
the camp/picnic grounds. Approximately five miles from Highway turnoff Ave 335

JUNE 1-JUNE 3, 2012: Heartland Saddle Club weekend campout at Nebraska National Forest at Halsey. Camping will be at windmill 201 where the annual 4H ride is generally held. It has lots of grass for portable pens and a water tank for the horses
but no amenities. Turn off on from Highway 2 at the Nebraska State Forest sign. The paved road
continues towards the Lookout tower, as you come to that you will see a dirt
road to the left that says Dismal river and whitetail campground. It is a
narrow dirt road that winds (about 3 miles) around to until you see
to the west, off of the dirt road, a large meadow with a windmill and stock
tank. Maps can be picked up or ask questions at the Ranger's station, upon entry to the park. Lodging is also available at the Middle Loup River Ranch (402-450-2268), 3 miles west of forest entrance, on Hwy 2. Lodging rates are $100 per night for 2 people plus $20 per person over 12 years of age. House sleeps 8 and is fully furnished, with corrals available. JUNE 3, 2012: Velvet Spurs Open Horse Show. Registrations @7:30am, show at 8:30. Entry Fee is $25.00 for the day or $10 for each class, 5 age groups; classes include showmanship, western pleasure, western horsemanship, trail class, reining, poles, barrels, and walk trot. JUNE 8-10, 2012: First Annual EstFest Nebraska Trailride. It is a trailride/campout for ladies, and will be located 10 miles North of Stapleton, NE, at the Wells Ranch. This organized ride originated in South Dakota back in 1997 and have held an annual fall ride ever since. They have now included a ride in Nebraska. JUNE 16, 2012: Rainbow Riders Association Ranch Trail Horse Competition at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings, NE. Start time is 10:00am CT, entry fee $30, with a $500 first place prize, $300 second and $200 third. Also, jackpot barrels $10 with payback for top 6. JUNE 30-JULY 1, 2012: St Judes Children's Hospital Saddle Up Trail Ride at Peckerneck Trail head (map) by Harlan Lake near Alma, NE. Saturday ride starts at 10:00CT, registration begins at 8:30. A $15 donation will give you a free evening meal with raffle for donated items afterwards. Saturday is an all day ride with lunch on the trail (bring your own sack lunch) and Sunday is a half day ride. Camping is primitive on a large grassy area, for camping overnight before or after the ride. Bring your own electric fence, panels or tie to trailer for containment. OCTOBER 14, 2012: Cheyenne County ride will be Sunday Oct 14 at 2 pm (cst). This is a group from Northwest Kansas that does a ride each year second weekend of October to benefit St. Judes. This year, about a 3 hour ride, start from the Dauthit Ranch. Free will donation, meal following the ride. Directions: Dauthit ranch-- take Hwy 34 to Parks, NE. Turn south at Parks, NE and travel south to road W. Go one mile East to Road 15, then North to set of buildings, follow cones through yard to parking area on East side.
OCTOBER 21, 2012:
HSC Trail Ride at Wayne and Dona Rundback Ranch, Southeast of N Platte.
Ride is to start at 1:00 CT (12:00MT) and will be through canyon
pastures, for approximately 3 hours. Dona is planning a soup or stew
type meal to follow so anyone who wants to bring any sides/desserts are
welcome to do so. Please RSVP to Twila (308) 239-4577 by OCTOBER 19thif
you plan to attend, for Dona’s food count and in case of inclement
weather. (Postpone date will be Saturday, October 27). Bring your lawn

Directions: from I-80 at N Platte, go 6.3 miles south to mile marker 75 on Hwy 83 (to power sub-station), turn East on Brown Road (large sign says Clark Brown's) for 1.25 miles to white archway, continue East into lane. From the South, at intersection of Hwy 23 and Hwy 83, go North 13.2 miles, then East 1.25 miles to white archway, continue East into lane.
OCTOBER 27-28, 2012: NCTA Ranch Horse Team and NCTA Equestrian Team at Curtis, NE present Sherman Tegtmeier, Reining and Horsemanship Clinic. Sherm is a NRHA trainer and renowned Non-pro coach. His clinics not only teach you reining, but he also teaches you horsemanship skills to help make you a better rider no matter how you want to use your horse. Beginner rider or advanced rider, Sherm can help you train your horse more successfully to get more enjoyment from riding and showing. Featured speakers will include veterinarian Dr Caitlin Daro with thermal imaging to detect hot spots of pressure, and saddle maker Dallas Shearer to explain what to look for in fitting your saddle to your horse. This event is being sponsored by the NCTA Horse Show team, along with the Heartland Saddle Club and there is no fee to attend. Bring your horse/saddle for evaluation of saddle fit. A limited amount of riding at the indoor arena will follow, with free will donations going to the NCTA Horse Show Team.
DECEMBER 11: Holiday Horse Parade at Stratton, NE, beginning at 2:30 CT. Hayrack available, meet at Grandview Center parking lot at 2:15, or decorate and bring your own horse to ride along spreading holiday song and cheer. April 11:Craig and Diana will host a trail ride at Craig's ranch for the next meeting at 1:00. In case of inclement weather, we will have our meeting there, in the barn. Directions: go north on Hwy 83 across the river bridge to Hall School Road (1st road east), go 7/10 of a mile east to Eshleman Road, turn north for 1 mile, it's the second house on the east side of the road. Kerri plans to bring iced tea, Bonnie plans to bring pot and coffee.

OCTOBER 4: Buz and Bonnie Ehlers are planning a
trail ride for NHA members and guests
on Sunday, October 4th, hosted by
the Wells and Milldale ranches North and East of Stapleton. Gary Warner,
Carol Clark and Larry Meyer from those ranches will be leading us and
doing the mapping for the trail.
The ride will begin at 1:30.
The starting point will be 8 miles North of the Logan County
Fairgrounds. There are a set of corrals on the East side of hiway 83 at
that point. We will leave our vehicles there and ride from that point
The ride is about 10 miles long and will take approximately 4 hours. We
will be riding through the Wells and Milldale ranches. At one point we
will be on Sanctions Bluff, which is the highest point in Logan
County…so bring your binoculars.
The ride will end at Milldale
Ranch Headquarters. At that point we will shuttle people back to the
starting point to pick up their trailers. We will end the day with a
meal of sloppy joes, cowboy beans, chips and drink. The Milldale Ranch
cook will be treating us to desert. We will need a head count in
advance, PLEASE RSVP BY SEPT 27th SO WE CAN PLAN FOR FOOD!!! CALL BONNIE @ 532-5846.
OCTOBER 11-Paxton Trailride @ Keystone Ranch. POSTPONED DUE TO WINTER STORM Start time is 9:30 MT to saddle up and be ready to ride by 10:00 MT. Morning ride will include the rough hills south of Keystone and the afternoon ride will likely include the area around Lake Ogallala. Cost is $5 per person and includes noon lunch. Bring your own snacks, cameras, etc for the ride. Directions to Keystone Ranch: From Highway 30 at Roscoe, stay on Highway 30 to the west edge of town, turn North at the Keystone Road sign, stay on paved road, continue north for 5.4 miles, slowing for steep curve and canal crossing, turn is directly north of canal on east side of road. Follow signs to parking area. Lunch will be served at parking area so bring your lawn chairs!!
OCTOBER 18: Paxton Trail Ride, Start time is 12:30MT to get saddled up and ready to ride
by 1:00MT. Rather than putting together a meal, we will be
just riding the afternoon. Our starting place will be where Bill Timmons
now lives, and he would be glad to provide his place for snacks and beverages
to follow the ride, if everyone wants bring snacks to share.
Directions to the starting place are: Go north off
Highway 30 as it passes through Paxton, on main street (flashing light) and
stay on the paved road going north for about 2 miles. The paved road
crosses the NPPD canal, start slowing down as you cross it, the turn to the
west (left) is the next road you come to about 1/4 mile further. The sign says
Road East 120. Follow this road for approximately 4 miles. On the third
curve (you will be going west) is where Bill lives. There is a cornfield
that has been partly picked on the north side of the road, and there is
room to park along the west and south edges of it.
This start
location has been used in the past on several rides, but we will be
riding a different route this time, down near the river and possibly up in the
hills to the west of Bill's. There is no RSVP and no charge since

NOVEMBER 15: NHA meeting to be
held at 1:00pm at Linda Johnson's indoor barn. A demonstration of proper saddle
fit for you and your horse, will be the topic. Guest speakers will include Jake
VanHorn ( a saddle maker from Ogallala), Jackie Bishop (equine massage
therapist) and possibly a horse trainer from Grand Island, that will all show
how saddle fit can influence the performance of your horse. Members are asked
to bring horses and saddles for demonstration purposes. There is no charge for
the demo, but those wishing to ride in the barn following the demo will be
required to pay a $10 fee per person, to cover electricity and insurance. A
short NHA meeting may follow the demo.
Directions to Linda's arena: from N Platte river
bridge go north on Hwy 83 for 2.7 miles. Turn west on first road at the top of
the hill. Coming from the north on Hwy 83, turn west on the first county road
past the 83/97 junction. Linda's driveway is the 3rd turn south, it's the next
turn after the mailbox that says Justin Roberts. There is limited parking in
Linda's yard so members are asked to pool rides if possible or park on the
county road if needed. In case of inclement weather, check out the NHA website
